250 Years of America. 172 Years of Opelika. 🚂🇺🇸

As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, we’re taking a look back at the place we call home.

The Lee County Courthouse is one of the places that defines downtown Opelika. Built in 1896, to replace an old frame structure, this neoclassical revival masterpiece is considered the most historically and architecturally significant building in our historic district.

From the laying of its cornerstone in October 1896 to its multi-million dollar renovation, this working courthouse has stood as a guardian of our local history for over a century. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it remains a stunning example of the craftsmanship and civic pride that built our town.
