Happy Winter Solstice my loves ❄️ May you find peace, healing and illumination in the darkness 💜 - Hermit card is one of the Major Arcana of the Tarot which literally means “major secrets”, we know that we are dealing with something very important. In addition, it is also understood that the Hermit represents some of the highest forms of wisdom and creativity as this card is ruled by Mercury and Virgo. To elaborate, the zodiac sign of Virgo is ruled by the planet Mercury which largely governs the mind and communication while Virgo is the sign of the virgin and thus the fecund potential of the mind. So, if one uses the power of their intellect to delve into one’s being, thus unlocking their own fertile potentiality- then one can become far more than what they thought. Of course, it takes wisdom (taught by life experience) to look in the proper place (inward) to do so, but if one does then an ocean of latent potentiality and creativity can be released. This is clearly seen in the pictorial symbolism of the Hermit with his lantern in the dark thus illuminating a path forward for growth. Further paralleling this is the fact that the Hermit in Tarot is associated with the Hebrew Letter Yod which represents among other things “The Secret Fire” which is the esoteric call to go within your own darkness and find that hidden spark of divinity. Once you do and have “seen the light” within so to speak a new way of life will have been born and you will realize the greatest of all secrets that you yourself are the entire universe. This in turn allows complete acceptance of aloneness and self awareness of oneself. Metaphorically, no longer is the darkness hiding any mysteries as the Hermit shines a light upon them and takes in the wisdom of their existence. So when you pull this card it’s asking you to step away from your projected egoic self image and go wandering into the darkness of your soul and seek the light within. So take that long quiet walk in the woods and check out. Be a Hermit. Meditate and silence the mind for a while. Its okay. It’s one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.
