🩶 Featured Friday: Hematite 🩶
If you've ever had a Reiki session with me, you've probably held a piece of Hematite in your hands. 🖤
Hematite is one of my favorite stones, and it's an important part of both my Reiki practice and my Reiki-infused healing bracelets.
🩶 A Little About Hematite 🖤
Hematite is an iron oxide mineral known for its beautiful metallic, silvery-gray to iron-black appearance, although it can also occur in deep red and reddish-brown forms. Its name comes from the Greek word haima, meaning blood, referring to the reddish color associated with its characteristic streak.
Hematite can be found in many parts of the world, including Brazil, Australia, South Africa, Canada, and the United States. Here in the U.S., one particularly well-known source is Michigan's Upper Peninsula, which is home to extensive iron-rich geological formations and a long history of iron mining.
The larger, rough piece at the top of my photo is especially meaningful to me because I actually found it myself! 🩶 I dug it out of a mine waste pile during a college Mineralogy field trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula in September 1996. I still remember how cold it was up there compared to Illinois that time of year! 🥶
30 years later, it's still a special reminder of my Geology major days at EIU, when my interest in rocks, minerals, and crystals began. 💜
The shiny piece at the bottom is the Hematite I use in my Reiki practice. This is the piece I have my clients hold while I guide them through grounding before their Reiki session begins. Once we're ready to begin the session, I place it in the Root Chakra position within a line of crystals beneath the Reiki table. I do this with the intention of supporting grounding, stability, and balance in the Root Chakra while the other crystals work together to support balance throughout the remaining chakra centers.
In crystal and energy-healing traditions, Hematite is especially associated with grounding, stability, protection, strength, and balance. It's often used when someone wants to feel more rooted, centered, and connected to the present moment. These qualities are a natural fit for the way I incorporate Hematite into my Reiki practice. 🌿
Before moving into the energetic work of a session, I want my clients to have a moment to arrive, become present, and settle into the experience. Having them hold the Hematite as we begin gives us that opportunity to pause and establish a sense of connection and presence before we go deeper into the session. 🌿
It's a reminder that while it's wonderful to explore our energy, emotions, intuition, and inner world, we are also physical beings who benefit from feeling rooted, present, and connected to the Earth beneath us. 🌎🖤
✨ Hematite is one of the stones I return to again and again when creating my Reiki-infused healing bracelets, and it is currently included in 7 different bracelet designs:
✨ Chakra Balance
✨ Migraine/Headache Support
✨ Depression/Anxiety
✨ Aquarius/Air
✨ Aries/Fire
✨ EMF Protection (both options)
Each of these bracelets combines Hematite with different stones and intentions, which is one of the things I love about working with it. Its traditionally associated qualities of grounding, stability, balance, and protection can complement so many different energetic intentions. 🖤
🖤 Hematite: grounding, strength, stability, and a reminder to come back to yourself.
