When I'm in Florida, I try to spend 4 days diving off Venice Beach searching for prehistoric shark and megalodon teeth. These prehistoric teeth can date back 2-1/2 to 26 MILLION years ago. We'll make 3 dives each day. Each dive I can get 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours on the bottom. So how many hours do I spend underwater for the day?
When I return to my studio the first task is to sort through all the teeth. Small similar teeth are usually set aside to be turned into earrings. Teeth for earrings are generally 1/2" to 3/4" long. Small enough to be light on the ears but large enough to stand out. Here's a pair I made by hand.

The seabed off Venice Beach, FL is primarily sand mixed with black granules much like salt and pepper. As you swim along the bottom at 25 to 30 feet of depth, you may occasionally spot a triangular shaped object. Upon further inspection you realize you found a prehistoric shark tooth. These fossilized teeth date back 2-1/2 to 26 MILLION years ago. Yes, Millions of years. After cleaning, I created this necklace using one of my finds. You can get more details in my on line store.

The prehistoric shark tooth featured in this necklace is from between 2-1/2 to 26 million years ago. I found it diving off Venice Beach in about 30 feet of water.
