A little pit stop on yesterday's forest drive. Saw these out of the corner of my eye while driving, and had to stop.
With how much sun we've been getting, bones that are out in the open are getting easier to spot!
Why? Because the sun bleaches bones! so any exposed bone will start to slowly whiten with time and sun exposure.
This always helps me notice bones off the roadside or out in open terrain.
Sun bleaching does definitely damage bones after a certain amount of time.
If left out in sun exposure too long, the outer cortical exterior ( outer smooth protective layer) of bone can get eaten away leaving behind a much more rough and porous bone.
Im assuming these have been out here since fall.
They are very sun bleached but im excited to find some good use for them!
