Meet Colette, the most breathtaking ring we’ve had thus far.

After all these years of looking at the most magnificent things, it is this ring that still makes my heart flutter.
French Deco at its finest.
An impressive ode to the Deco era of design - the elongated baguettes play off the round brilliant center stone in the most pleasing of ways. Handcrafted in platinum, centered by a 1.10 carat Old European Cut diamond, I dare say this ring is almost One-of-a-Kind. I have searched and searched for an equivalent original Deco piece and have yet to find one.

When I first started out, I saved a folder of “Ideal Rings” as inspiration. Later I realized they were almost all reproductions. And this ring would top that “Ideal” list, but she’s the real deal.
THIS is what so many repros are based on, and here you have the mother, the progenitor, to all those copies.

She bears the French Dog’s Head, and is oh so comfortable to wear. Check out the gallery - I find the perfectly simple proportions of the metalwork just as pleasing as the rest of the ring.

It is a no fuss sparkle bomb, and simultaneously quite the statement.
I always found that step cuts, and baguettes in particular, represented a sort of next level style. The not-in-your-face, but SO in-your-face-ness of high level fashion.
Baguettes are clean, captivating, and seem to hold all of the light in the world.
This ring and these baguettes have not met a minting scenario they did not love.

When I found this ring in Paris, I gasped. Glittering and perfect, as if we had stepped back into the 1920s. French-made and stamped, it just seemed too good to be true.
I held my breath and waited for an astronomical price. For original Deco pieces like this, in this kind of condition, a person could ask any amount they wanted. And when I heard a number I could swallow, I snapped it up in half a second.

To see it is to truly understand the perfect proportions, the master craftsmanship, the extraordinariness.
It is exceptionally rare to find this elegant elongated target ring style in an original Deco piece. More than a target, it feels like a sunburst or starburst.
The custom calibrated sapphires have been perfectly cut and set so that they blend seamlessly together without a hint of the setting behind them. This is a laborious and skilled process, which is extremely expensive to have done today (with very few artisans who still possess this skill).

The diamond is bezel set, and low, and the whole ring manages to hug the finger in an incredibly wearable construction.
The central diamond is a 5.60mm Old European Cut, weighing approximately .70 carat.

This ring screams of a designer house, with a very high quality diamond, graded at H-I color and VS2 clarity, and extremely high quality accents, with the halo of 22 Old Single Cut diamonds graded at H-J, VS-SI.

The sapphires are lab-created, a process that had recently been perfected and was all the rage in this era (it allowed for perfectly matched stones, and for risky cutting such as these calibrated stones).

PSA incoming…Never thought I’d be making a car seat post, but motherhood brings many things you never expected!
We just had a disturbing experience with our beautiful .

If you know me IRL you’ve probably heard me talk about how the Nuna Revv rotating car seat is my favorite baby object, and the best baby thing we own! I loved loved loved this seat and have told everyone it is the one thing I’m glad we splurged on. It was so easy for my broken body to use, and I was so thankful.

The other day, Baby Rain got sick (for the first time!), and it was a doozy. As soon as we got home we unloaded everything for decontamination. My partner took care of the car seat cleaning (hero!) and did what he had done for his many car seat cleanings from his other kids, and unthreaded the harness to adequately clean it. It dried, he put it back together, we installed the seat and went back to life.
But it didn’t seem quite right, the straps weren’t getting tight enough - something was off.
After about a week, I took the car seat out to figure out what was going on. After a lot of researching I concluded that although it is possible to unthread the harness, that unlike many other seats, this is a “no-rethread” seat. Yes, my partner made a mistake, but he had never had a car seat like that and didn’t even know that they existed.
Once unthreaded, it can never be re-threaded and the seat is in fact dunzo. We had been driving for a week with a dangerous seat. I was shook. What if something had happened?
AND our perfect condition, extremely expensive seat had not only put Baby Rain in danger, but it was now worthless. I am not ashamed to admit that I shed some tears.
We called hoping for some pity, some solution, for an issue that seems incredibly dangerous. They offered to sell us a new seat without cover and cupholders, for over $300. Basically the retail cost of those parts. I had been hoping they would offer some affordable solution and I can’t believe that such an expensive item is rendered worthless.

So here I am, asking nuna to make it right, and warning other parents about this incredibly unsafe design flaw. You should NOT be able to unthread these.

My rainbow 🌈 beauty! I snagged a few perfect engagement rings this summer, and this is one of them. Meticulous Deco design paired with some old fashioned practicality.
The elusive and coveted bezel and flush set diamond! Secure, snag-free, and still elegant as hell.
I get soooo many requests for bezel set engagement rings, and ornate antique ones are not easy to find- this baby is a bit of a unicorn. A diamond setting has to have some height to make room for the pavilion, and to allow light in. This sloped pierced gallery is the perfect solution.

I love the classic pairing of geometry and nature of this period - a soft round bezel inside an unusual flared square gallery, and accented by an abundance of floral engraving along the shank. I am not a floral expert (though I’d like to be!) but I think these are most likely Lily of the Valley, used often as a wedding flower, and celebrated as representing Spring and the return of happiness. They also look like tulips here, if tulips are special to you!

Old European Cut Center Diamond is graded at I/J, SI1. As you can see, the stone is gorgeous and throws so many rainbows 🌈. This is the dream of a perfectly cut Old Euro - rather than explosion of needles of light like a modern diamond, you get a unique kaleidoscope, like a fingerprint of that particular diamond, as each are slightly different depending on the cutter and the stone they were working with.

What a relic of the heyday of diamond jewelry! The early 1900s saw an explosion of ornate platinum jewelry as the creation of the acetylene torch allowed the use of platinum and therefore the ever more intricate designs that we see in the Edwardian and Art Deco periods.
This was a time of master craftsmen - of handwork that costs oodles to recreate today. My inventory note actually says “Crazy Platinum Setting”. I worry that I did not capture its beauty fully - trust that this is even more beautiful in person. But chronically ill mamas do not have time for perfection!

There are so many nods to how high end this ring is. Take note of the hand engraving all of the way down the shank (orange blossoms, I believe), of the diamonds embedded into the setting and the shank, that lend a sense of pervasive twinkle. Check out the ornate cathedral style gallery, as beautiful as the top of the ring itself.

There is architectural artistry all over this ring- marvel at the 4 bejeweled buttresses, holding up the center stone. The pierced gallery is an ingenious design that is not only beautiful but lets light pour in behind the diamond, making it sparkle even more.

This is arguably one of the most perfect settings I have ever had.
And then the stone!!! It has the most visible and striking kozibe effect I’ve ever seen in a large stone. The kozibe is when the culet facet (a circle) gets reflected in the rest of the stone, so when you look into the diamond you can see a circle of circles. It is a desirable and sought after effect, and it’s kind of like a little secret inside your diamond.

This ring is centered by a 1.56 carat Old European Cut diamond, graded K/VS2 (arguably the exact grading you want in an Old Euro), and comes with a GIA certificate.

Oh queen Rose Cut, how we love you!
Before the brilliant cut diamond that we know today became ubiquitous, diamond cutters developed the rose cut to work with a natural stone and to display a diamond’s beauty. The rose cut is flat on bottom, and faceted on top, giving it a much larger spread than its carat weight, and lending a much more subtle brilliance:
When I first saw a rose cut I thought, OH I DO love diamonds!
They are moody, individual, and speak to our history. They are especially queens of candle and low light.
This rose cut is .58 carat but presents more like a carat round brilliant. It is a vintage stone set in an antique Victorian setting - 14k rosy yellow gold, with so much geometric detailing.
Roses cuts often glow from within and are hard to capture by camera.

The North-South diamond accents could be removed to create a rose cut solitaire which I think would be 🔥 as an engagement ring.

Flip rings are one of the great joys of antique jewelry collecting! Once very popular, they have become rare on the market, and oh so desirable. And with these bright green stones? I’ve never seen one in person before with green stones like this.
In the early 1900s, ingenuity and technology were still prized, and a little mechanical dazzle in a ring was quite desirable! Why did we ever stop??

A ring to fit 2 moods…and to wow all party-goers.
Circa approximately 1930, this dropped right in the heart of Deco times and no doubt saw some scandalous jazz in its day.
The green stones are actually emerald paste - a special leaded glass created so that it could be faceted like gemstones, and quite common in the era. It allowed a ring like this to be accessible to more people.
As you can see, it is scrumptious. The green glows, and with the filigree work (all in 14k white gold), it’s just a stunning ring, with an extra special cameo with diamond for the day you’re feeling like representing women.

The ring was well loved and the emerald paste has some generous epoxy to keep it all in place. I will have my jeweler check it out and see if it needs any tightening or cleanup, tho sometimes it’s best to leave as-is!

Sold this amazingly preserved antique opal and diamond bracelet while I was out buying a month ago. Some of the very best things get snapped up that way!
Every professional who has seen this since I bought it has said “wow!”. The perfectly matched opals, the fine metalwork, the glittering old cut diamonds. I can’t tell you how much less I find wonderful antique opals anymore, and these are spectacular.

In the 1880s, some major opal deposits were found in Australia, and that changed opal jewelry as we know it. These stones, especially those from Lightning Ridge, were renowned for their beauty and fiery play-of-color.
Today, these richly colored specimens are much harder to find, and much much more expensive. The abundance of gorgeous stones out of Lightning Ridge has become more of a high end trickle.

Absolutely perfect early 1900s 18k ruby snake. Some bloom left which gives it that buttery high karat gold look. Engraved scales, curly tail, nice and weighty at over 7 grams. And that stone has the most enchanting cut. Here she is in our perfect Paris apartment.

I want to hoard this ring sooo badly. It is everything you want in a snake ring. And a great daily wear.
