Caitie Sellers Metalsmith Handmade jewelry and small sculpture inspired by the urban landscape.

My jewelry and sculpture is informed by observations of the many places I’ve lived; from the Appalachian Mountains to Guatemala, isolated Montana to urban Texas. I love infrastructure, architecture, and the changes a population makes on its environment. I make one of a kind jewelry, small sculpture for the wall, and production wearables out of sterling silver, copper, steel, and whatever else I can find, and I spend much of my time making drawings and taking pictures.

Welcome Felix Zi-Meng Sellers-Tsai! Our little potato entered this earthly realm on 12/22/23 and we brought him home on Christmas because obviously:

Can you believe they just watch you break your whole bottom half of your body, keep you awake for 5 days, and then say “cool, here’s an rx for ibuprofen, go load this innocent in your car and get on the interstate✌️” ??? Only partially kidding- our doula, midwife, L&D nurses, lactation consultants, and pediatricians all possessed the spirits of ancient witches who hold rare and powerful magic. I hated being pregnant and resented a full 5 months of it, but I’ll never get over how cool and bizarre and empowering the end of this process was. I am proud of myself and my body and my ability to cope- apparently I kept shouting “I’M A TOUGH BITCH” between contractions. I am now overwhelmed with love and showing pictures of potato-faced infants to strangers just like I said I wouldn’t.
I probably don’t need to say this but I’m not doing a great job of checking my DM’s and emails. Catch me sometime in April if you need me for jewelry-related shenanigans, and definitely say hello to , , and , our insanely knowledgeable and talented team at while I’m nestled in at home.

Yesterday this ancient mystical being was released from his flesh vehicle after 22 years of entrapment.

I got him when I was 17 and a junior in high school. He used to catch me a rodent every weekend I came home from college. He and his frenemy Lula (RIP) lived in 16 different homes between 6 cities in 4 states.

He was the most unbothered cat of all time, an old man ever since he was a kitten. He loved a face scratch so hard you worried for the integrity of his skull. He was a sweet dumb old gargoyle and I’m having a hard time imagining my life without him.

When and I took over back in the fall our first priority was to update our branding and online presence to communicate more of what you’ll experience in our quirky, magical store and its mysterious busy basement workshop. Our new website and branding is *almost done* and we are so happy with it! Part of the process was having the incredibly talented take photos of our space.
Yes, that is a kitten poster over my left shoulder. There is a reason Maggie and I feel at home here.

This custom set was a few years in the making and finally completed in the summer of 2021. My client worked in textiles and wanted a sentimental woven hair piece for her wedding ring with stylized bands representing love knots. I carved these detailed bands in wax and cast them in 14k yellow and white gold. My client wove her and her fiancé’s hair and even included a whisker from their beloved cat. I set the weaving under rock crystal with a 14k bezel and some extra water proofing🤞.
I’m grateful to have gotten to work on such an incredibly cool project with such sweet lovebirds! Thank you, Anna and Tyger, and thanks to Katie for sending them my way!

Maggie and I bought a jewelry store!!!
has been a Richmond institution since Don opened shop here in Shockoe Slip 32 years ago. I’ve always known about the store, what with Richmond having a tight knit community of jewelers and Don always hiring his staff out of VCU. After the pandemic killed my craft show business I started working here because , the incredible goldsmith here, said they needed help and I really wanted to be her friend. I started part time as Don’s bookkeeper/sales manager and slowly started taking on more jobs and more hours because I just unexpectedly loved the work. I love the clients who come here because they want something handmade and weird, like the woman who wanted to gift herself a birthday present of a necklace that looks like a pumpkin, or the couple whose inside joke about their favorite cereal led to an Oatmeal Square getting cast in solid 14k gold and strung on a chain. I love that every day there is some new challenge, some new skill to learn, some technique I never got the chance to engage in my 17 years of making jewelry. Also and , the hardest working, smartest, funniest, best coworkers there ever were. When Don decided to retire I just didn’t want to see the store close.
Thats the exact instant I called . Owning a jewelry store has never been my dream (until recently!) but it has been hers. I wanted her as my partner, adding all the important skills I know I lack. Maggie is an extraordinary curator with an eye for art jewelry, a passion for supporting artists, and SO MUCH ENERGY. The 10 month process of nailing down our business plan, applying for funding, and finally closing on the sale YESTERDAY has been grueling and the timing never great. I am grateful beyond words to have done this with a capable and supportive friend.
He doesn’t want this but helping me keep my s**t together during this transition was so valuable he deserves future dividends. What a guy.
Please stay tuned for massive changes at the store as we transition into the modern era and come visit!!!

Hi friends! I am doing something extra special in my stories this week. If you didn’t already know this, I get to work around incredible artists at our shared studio, the . We are a multidisciplinary artist studio in Richmond, Va that I founded in 2015. This merry band of artists that I am privileged to share a space with have been so important to me and my business. I get to bounce ideas off them, ask them for advice, use them as models, unpack the stresses of being a small business owner, rely on their friendship and offer my support in return. We have a true cooperative and I’m so grateful for their presence in my life during this crazy time.
Since we are mostly working from home now I am missing these incredible women so much. So every day this week I’m going to highlight one member of our community in my Instagram stories. I’m so excited to introduce you to these friends and talented makers. Please follow along!

Like everyone else, I’m dealing with crushing existential dread. I made a ring for myself out of some leftover 14k stock from a previous project. I think it helped me remember that I am not my business, I am a person. I would be working on inventory for my spring show season right now but it just felt fruitless. Most of my income comes from craft shows- gatherings of thousands of people. While I’m freaked out about how I’m going to make ends meet, I’m so so so much more freaked out about the risk to my immune compromised loved ones and my loved ones’ loved ones. I’ll be spending the next few weeks making whatever I feel like making and let’s see where this goes together. Wishes for good physical and emotional health from me, your friendly Instagram jeweler/real person. @ The Elevator Collective
