Starting today, we are taking a temporary break from kids piercings for any child under twelve until August 14th!
Why are we doing this? ✨
Summertime fun and a fresh piercing for your lil ones do not mix. Moisture can be introduced in a number of ways, like playing mermaids in the pool all summer or swimming on the family beach trip. Although it seems harmless, excessive moisture can lead to moisture bumps and potentially hypertrophic scarring. Additionally, places like the pool can introduce a lot of bacteria to a fresh piercing, leading to other issues. While we recognize it isn’t impossible for parents to monitor their kids piercings effectively enough to avoid issues, keeping up with aftercare for piercings can be time consuming. We want their summer break to be a break for you, too (or at least a lil less stressful) and for them to focus on the fun!
Kids older than 12, or those turning 12 between May 14th and August 14th, can still come see us! Anyone younger, we’ll be excited to see them after August 14th!
Needa refresh on dealing with moisture? ✨
Swimming, showering, wet hair - moisture is completely unavoidable! To limit the likelihood of moisture bumps, we recommend avoiding submerging in any water, bath or otherwise, or sleeping with wet hair. After a shower, clean the piercing with saline, and lightly pat the area dry using a clean paper towel. For children with longer hair, parents may benefit for blow drying the parts of the hair which rest near the piercing or pulling it back.
Going elsewhere? ✨
Though we recommend waiting until after summer, we realize some parents may still opt for summer piercings for to their own reasons. Please, please, please do NOT go to the mall or any establishment offering piercings with a handheld pressure device (aka piercing gun.) Not only will moisture still be an issue, these devices cause bodily trauma and cannot be sterilized, directly introducing a fresh piercing to bacteria or the bodily fluids of a previous individual. Additionally, the risk for infection and rejection of a piercing is much higher with these devices
