The Rolex Built for Science! This Rolex is now available at C. White's Jewelry!!
In the 1950s, Rolex set out to solve a problem most watchmakers weren’t thinking about: magnetism.
Scientists, engineers, and technicians working around powerful magnetic fields could find their mechanical watches losing accuracy. Rolex responded in 1956 with the Milgauss—a watch engineered to withstand magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gauss. Its name came from mille, French for one thousand, and gauss, the measurement of magnetism.
Over time, the Milgauss became one of Rolex’s most distinctive creations, recognized by details like its famous lightning-bolt seconds hand and, on certain versions, the striking green sapphire crystal.
It wasn’t originally created simply as a luxury watch. It was created as a tool for people pushing the boundaries of science and technology.
Today, that unusual history is exactly what makes the Milgauss so special.
