Top strap or bottom strap? Which would you choose

Sorry for the shakiness, when you watch the video and understand the scale that I’m actually shooting, you will understand that even the smallest hand trimmer is going to show

What you’re looking at is the caliber 1003 Vacheron Constantin, coming in at a mirror 1.64 mm thick in its entirety, and this specific Watch I believe is Dennis BC ever made the reference 4961 coming in at 3.8 mm thick including case back and crystal

Hopefully you enjoyed the video, something this rare in this intricate should be shared and enjoyed so please feel free to share it and repost

So this is a first for me - we live in the matrix apparently. Me, from the past gave myself a refresher course, today, on a watch I once made a video on and shared to YouTube- I googled “History of the BW Raymond Wrist Watch” and Gemini decided to cite me, on my video, and shared that information with me, then chatGPT actually noticed the fact that Gemini was citing ME in order to refresh MY memory, so like, now my mind is fried and I don’t know if I am in base level reality.

This might be one of the coolest watches currently in our shop — and there’s a good chance you’ve never heard of it.

This is the Elgin B.W. Raymond Wristchronometer, powered by a 23-jewel DuraBalance movement and, in this example, housed in solid 14K gold.

In 1959, the B.W. Raymond became the first American mechanical wristwatch approved for railroad time service, beginning with the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad.

That was a BIG deal.

For generations, railroad-grade pocket watches represented some of the strictest standards in American mechanical timekeeping. Accuracy wasn’t about bragging rights—it was essential to safely operating a railroad.

Elgin essentially took that tradition and put it on the wrist.

This particular example is the solid 14K gold version, making an already fascinating piece of American horological history considerably more special.

Watches like this are exactly why we love vintage. Sometimes the coolest watch in the room isn’t the one with the most recognizable name on the dial.
