Aesthetic Arrest started with a dozen silver thumb rings. Sometime in the hot Florida summer of 2014 was when I decided I was going to take on the beauty of working with metal. I was sitting at home and thought to myself, "I want to make silver rings!" and that was that. Even though it was not as simple as saying "I want to make silver rings" I taught myself the ins and outs and I started with a ton of silver thumb rings for my friends. I was giving them out left and right and it filled my heart that everyone loved them. Towards the end of 2015 is when I decided I would pour my soul into it. Taking on new challenges and combining my love for music into my pieces. A collaboration of energies so to speak. Music plays a huge roll in influencing the piece I am working on. If you look at my listings each piece has a name, That name comes from which ever song I am listening to as I finish the piece. My creative inspirations also consist of a vast array of people places and things. The darker side of beauty, A glowing darkness if you will. Not only the love of life and the love of nature but also the mysterious side of dark romanticism and the poets from that era, Romance, The night sky, The universe, The nature of the conscious and subconscious minds, Lucid dreaming, The unknown, Connections, Magnetism, Mysteries, Enigma and Gothic architecture to name a few. I make pieces that are the most simplistic to the most extravagant and everything in between. I just enjoy every aspect of working with metal and stones and being able to put my pieces in the world. I enjoy my craft and am so very passionate about it and I hope you will enjoy them as well!

Moths, butterflies, and dragonflies were some of my mom’s favorite things. I’ve tackled two of the three, but I don’t have the balls to attempt a dragonfly. And of course, that was her favorite of the bunch. Lol.

I’ve always loved the folklore surrounding moths and butterflies. In ancient Greece, the word *psyche* meant both butterfly and soul, which I think is pretty fu***ng beautiful. Moths, on the other hand, have a creepier history. In various folk traditions, they were believed to be messengers from the dead, wandering souls, or little warnings that something was coming.

Butterflies got the rebirth and transformation, while moths got stuck haunting the living Lol.

Either way, I love the idea of these little creatures being connected to something beyond this world. Especially knowing how much my mom loved them!!! 🫶🥹

A little moonlight, some drying herbs, and a few moody trees.

I’ve always had a thing for trees. These tiny little effers are an absolute pain in my ass to make, but they’re also some of the most gratifying pieces when they’re finally finished.

And of course, there’s a little folklore behind all of it 💁‍♀️

Trees have been wrapped up in stories of spirits, protection, and otherworldly places. In Celtic folklore, certain trees were associated with the fairy realm, and disturbing them was believed to bring bad luck. Some were even considered gateways between our world and theirs. Hence my past collection, portals!

Then there’s the drying herbs. Rosemary has a long history of being associated with remembrance and protection, and hanging herbs to dry wasn’t always just about preserving them for cooking or medicine. In various folk traditions, certain herbs were also hung or kept around the home to ward off unwanted influences.

So basically, we’ve got moonlit woods, protective herbs, candles burning, and possibly a doorway to another realm.

Just your average day of creating for me! 🤣🫶

A few more botanical moons for my fall set.

I’ve always been drawn to the darker side of nature. The strange folklore, old superstitions, and the things people once believed were lurking in the woods. I have books on books of folklore!

Bellflower— Also known as Witch’s Thimble. In British folklore, harebells were associated with witches and fairies, and picking them was sometimes considered bad luck. Such a delicate little flower to have such an unsettling reputation.

Coneflower— I’ve already gone into some of echinacea’s history, but here’s another interesting bit. In the late 1800s, it was being sold as “Meyers Blood Purifier” with claims that it could treat rattlesnake bites. Whether it actually worked is another story entirely.

Mushrooms— Fairy rings have always fascinated me. Have you ever seen one in person? I have, and they’re absolutely beautiful. Perfect circles of mushrooms appearing seemingly out of nowhere. In European folklore, they were believed to be places where fairies or witches gathered to dance. Some stories warned that stepping inside could trap you in their dance or leave you wandering back into a world where years had passed.

I think that’s what I love most about nature. Something can be beautiful, poisonous, medicinal, or surrounded by centuries of superstition. Sometimes all at once.

Finalllllyyyyyyy 😭
I’ve obviously been doing a lot of flowers with each season, so here are some of my favorite fall botanicals and the weird little history behind them.
BELLADONNA / DEADLY NIGHTSHADE
I know, it’s been done a thousand times, but my favorite part isn’t even the flower, it’s those creepy black berries. Atropa comes from Atropos, the Fate who cut the thread of life. And belladonna means “beautiful lady,” traditionally linked to women using it to dilate their pupils for beauty. Poisonous AND cosmetic.
CONEFLOWER / ECHINACEA
Echinacea comes from the Greek word for hedgehog because of its spiky center. It has a long history of medicinal use among Indigenous peoples of North America and was later sold commercially for everything from toothaches to snakebite.
MOONFLOWER — IPOMOEA ALBA 🌙
These flowers open in the evening and attract nighttime pollinators like moths. Basically, a flower that waits for darkness to come alive. Obviously I love it.
POPPY PODS
Poppies have been associated with sleep and death since antiquity. The dead flower leaves behind a pod full of seeds—death and new life in one little capsule.
Oh yeah…and the o***m poppy is also where o***m comes from. 😂
WILTING TULIP
Wilting flowers were used in vanitas art as reminders that beauty, wealth and life don’t last. I especially love the tulip because people went absolutely bats**t over them during 17th-century Tulip Mania.
No matter how valuable or beautiful the flower was…
it still fu***ng wilted.
Beauty, poison, medicine, darkness, death & folklore
Sounds about right. 💁‍♀️🌙

Would you believe I’m STILL waiting on backordered silver?! Like fucckkk! 😭 This is the first time I’ve ever had to wait this long for metal and it’s absolutely killing me because I am SO ready to start working on fall pieces.
In the meantime, a little throwback to some past favorites The too 3 pieces are actually still available in my shop!
I’ve been using the downtime to put a ton of work into my new online silversmithing courses, which I’m incredibly excited about… but I’m officially getting antsy to get back to my bench and start bringing this year’s fall collection to life.
Hopefully VERY soon. 🌙🍂🖤
