A few weeks ago, we shared two tourmalines and asked what you thought they should become.

The votes came in. A two-stone ring was the favorite.

Now, it’s Bob’s turn.

What you’re watching is the very beginning of that ring taking shape. Working in carving wax, Bob is building the design around two very different stones, finding a way for them to belong together in a single piece.

Next week, the wax model heads to casting, where this little blue creation begins its transformation into gold.

THE WORK | A Study in Contrast

Like fragments of a modern stained-glass window, these earrings bring together color, light, and unexpected geometry.

Long, slender cuts of indicolite tourmaline extend beyond irregular plates of 14K yellow gold. The gold’s textured surface feels almost ancient, while the clean lines of the blue-green stones offer a striking contrast.

Two distinct forms, brought together in a design that feels both contemporary and timeless.

THE WORK | A Different Kind of Balance

Two rich rhodolite garnets, each held within a sweeping design of 14K yellow gold.

The open curves create a sense of movement, while the deep raspberry-red stones provide a striking contrast. There’s a beautiful tension between the softness of the rounded gemstones and the sharp, deliberate lines of the gold.

THE BENCH | The Final Form

Gold doesn’t arrive at its final shape by accident.

At this stage, Laura uses a hammer to refine the curves and contours of a bentons neck wire, carefully bringing the metal into its intended form.

It’s a balance of force and restraint. Knowing where to apply pressure, how much is needed, and when to stop.

What begins as a length of gold becomes something designed to rest naturally along the neckline.

THE WORK | Green Tourmaline & Diamond Earrings

A study in contrast and balance.

Deep green tourmalines are suspended beneath a geometric arrangement of 14K yellow gold, accented by delicate rows of diamonds.

The asymmetrical geometry of the upper setting brings a modern edge to the design, while the movement of the suspended stones lends a softer, more organic quality.

THE BENCH | Amethyst & 14K Yellow Gold

Not every stone needs a traditional cut.

These amethysts feature an unusual, almost fractured surface, sometimes referred to as a hammer cut. Rather than the precise, symmetrical facets we’re accustomed to seeing, their irregular surfaces catch and scatter light in unexpected ways.

The final steps: carefully securing each stone in its 14K yellow gold setting, followed by a final polish.

A little unconventional. And all the more beautiful for it.

A solitaire doesn’t have to be simple.

Moissanite set in 14K yellow gold, held in a setting that becomes part of the design itself. The open, sculptural shape wraps around the stone in sweeping lines, giving a classic solitaire an entirely different silhouette.
