MCSO Search and Rescue Assists Injured Hiker Near Breitenbush Hot Springs

On June 18, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Marion County Sheriff's Office East District Deputies responded to a report of an injured 85-year-old hiker approximately one mile up a trail near Breitenbush Hot Springs. The hiker had fallen and sustained serious injuries.

Due to the challenging terrain, Marion County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue volunteers were called to assist with the rescue. Using a wheeled litter and technical rope systems, SAR members safely transported the patient from the trail to the trailhead, where he was transferred to Lyons Ambulance for further medical care.

This successful rescue was made possible through the teamwork and coordination of Lyons Ambulance, Idanha-Detroit Fire District, Breitenbush Fire, METCOM 911, WVCC, MCSO Deputies, and MCSO Search and Rescue volunteers.

Thank you to all the responders and volunteers who worked together to ensure the hiker received the care he needed safely and efficiently.

Hiking Safety Reminder: Before heading out on the trail, be sure to tell someone where you're going and when you expect to return. Carry plenty of water, wear appropriate footwear, know your physical limits, and bring a charged cell phone or emergency communication device. Even experienced hikers can encounter unexpected hazards, so preparation is key to staying safe outdoors.

Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Convicted Felon in Possession of Firearm

On June 13, 2026, a Marion County Sheriff's Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Cody Theodore after recognizing him as having multiple outstanding arrest warrants.

Following Theodore's arrest on the warrants, deputies impounded the vehicle after determining it was uninsured and no valid driver was available to take custody of it. During an inventory of the vehicle prior to towing, deputies located an un-serialized Glock-style handgun and a loaded magazine inside a bag containing identification belonging to Theodore.

Further investigation revealed Theodore is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing fi****ms.

Theodore was arrested and lodged at the Marion County Jail on his outstanding warrants and one count of Possession of a Weapon by Certain Felons (ORS 166.270).

As with all criminal cases, charges are accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
