Nobody outside of West Texas ever knew the name Sonora. But for a stretch of time in the early 1900s, this small Sutton County town was the wool and mohair capital of the entire world. 🐐

The Edwards Plateau was made for Angora goats. The rocky cedar hills, the thin limestone soil, the dry air — it was as if the land had been waiting for them. Ranching families across Sutton County ran thousands of goats across those hills, and twice a year the shearing sheds filled with the most prized fiber on earth. Sonora became the place where it all came together: the buyers, the warehouses, the rail cars loaded with bales headed to mills in New England and Europe. At its peak, more mohair passed through this town than almost anywhere else on the planet.

Most people driving through Sonora today have no idea they're passing through the ruins of a world-class industry. The ranching families are still there. The land is still there. And if you know where to look, the old wool and mohair warehouses are still standing on the edge of town, quiet and sun-bleached, holding a story that most of Texas forgot. 🤠

Market at the Bosque at the Concho River

The Market at the Bosque is an outdoor vendor market held along the scenic Concho River in San Angelo, Texas. Open to the general public, this event brings together artisan vendors, craft makers, boutique retailers, specialty food vendors, and food trucks for a full day of shopping, dining, and outdoor recreation.
Set in one of San Angelo’s most picturesque riverfront locations, the market offers visitors an opportunity to experience local shopping in a relaxed outdoor setting. In addition to vendor booths and food offerings, attendees can enjoy on-site activities including putt-putt, washers, sand volleyball, fishing along the river, and live music throughout the day.
