Indigenous people are not just part of history. They’re making history. ❤️

For 17 years, some of the most incredible people behind Lumily have been Indigenous women in Guatemala and Mexico. Talented artisans, entrepreneurs, mothers and community leaders who have taught us so much more than how beautiful handmade can be.

Today is about celebrating Indigenous people. Not just their traditions, but their voices, contributions, rights and futures.

Because Indigenous history is still being written. By Indigenous people. Every single day.

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day. 🧡

In a world where almost everything can be automated and mass-produced, something made by human hands feels more valuable than ever. 🤎

At Lumily, we work directly with artisans around the world, many of whom we’ve known for years. We’ve visited their homes, met their families and watched their children grow up.

Behind every handmade piece is a real person with incredible skills, traditions worth preserving and a family supported by their craft.

So maybe it’s time to rethink what luxury really means.

✨ Knowing who made it.
✨ Appreciating the time and skill behind it.
✨ Choosing products that create meaningful opportunities for others.

Because the real luxury isn’t just owning something beautiful. It’s knowing your purchase makes a difference.

Good Fashion. Good Karma. 🌎

A higher price doesn’t always mean “more expensive.” Sometimes, it means more time, more skill, and more story behind the piece. 🌿
That’s the beauty of handmade.

The laughing is not staged. 🧡 This is one of our favorite parts of working directly with artisans: getting to know the actual humans behind the things we sell. Fair trade should be good for everyone involved, especially the people doing the making. Happy Fair Trade Month to the talented humans behind every stitch, bead, weave and ridiculously good product.

A little color can bring so much life to a space. :sparkles: And when those colorful touches are handmade by women artisans, they bring something even more meaningful into your home.

This bag started as a skirt. Really. 🇬🇹

Before it became a Lumily tote, this fabric was part of a traditional Guatemalan corte, the woven skirt worn by Maya women throughout Guatemala.

We give these beautiful textiles another life, transforming them into one-of-a-kind bags you can actually carry every day. The colors, patterns and signs of their previous life aren’t something we try to hide. They’re what make each one so good.

Old textile. New purpose. Still handmade in Guatemala.

And no two are exactly alike, so when you find your bag, that’s the one. ❤️

The way we shop says a little about what we value. Choosing handmade, supporting artisans, and buying with intention are small ways to make a difference. Because what we bring into our homes can carry meaning beyond the product itself.

Hispanic Heritage Month isn’t a marketing moment for us. It’s part of how Lumily came to be. ❤️

For 17 years, some of the most important people in our story have been the women, families and artisan communities we work with in Mexico and Guatemala.

And if there’s one thing all those years have taught us, it’s this:

Cultura isn’t something you preserve by putting it behind glass. You keep it alive by using it. Wearing it. Teaching it. Reinventing it. Passing it on.

A weaving technique learned from a mother becomes a bag carried through San Diego. A traditional textile becomes part of someone’s everyday wardrobe. Something made by hand in a small community in Guatemala ends up loved in a home thousands of miles away.

That’s the part we never get tired of.

Because handmade isn’t stuck in the past. It’s living culture.

So this month, we’re celebrating the makers, the traditions, the ridiculously beautiful colors, the creativity and all the different ways our cultura keeps moving forward.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month to everyone keeping cultura alive. 🌺
