I took myself to dinner tonight.
Alone.
It was weird.
But also… needed.
In an awkward, therapeutic kind of way.
I walked in intending to take my order to go. But before I paid, I noticed an older woman sitting alone in the corner.
And I thought to myself, If she can do it, so can I.
So I stayed.
And I sat.
Alone.
I tried to distract myself with my phone, my food, people-watching… all the little things that keep us comfortably removed from the discomfort of reality.
But no amount of distraction could pull me away from the weight of today.
It was just… hard.
You know those days. The kind where you wake up and everything seems slightly out of alignment. How many pieces of toast do we need to drop on the floor before we finally give up and just have a banana for breakfast kind of morning.
I wanted to go back to bed and wake up tomorrow, hoping it would already be a better day.
There are days when we question whether we're really cut out for the thing that's been put in front of us.
Days when we want to quit because we feel unqualified. Unprepared. Uneducated. Uninformed. Where the voices in your head are louder than the ones in your heart.
Today was hard.
But that doesn't mean every day is hard.
Maybe the hard days are what prepare us for the harder ones. Maybe they're what teach us to recognize—and appreciate—the easy ones. And maybe sometimes, they're simply there to remind us that we're capable of doing things that make us uncomfortable.
I think the real reason I walked into that restaurant with one intention and walked out with a completely different lesson was that I needed to see one single woman sitting alone, doing something hard…
…and realize that I can do hard things, too.
So can you.
Don't let a feeling of defeat become your reality.
Pick up the toast.
Butter it up.
And call a 10-second rule on that bad boy.
Because tomorrow is another day. ❤️
