Many chain maille jewelry weaves have their origins in the ancient chain maille used for combat. Nowadays, many creative people have envisioned new designs with these ancient weaves and have even created brand new weaves. What do I mean by weaves? Well, each and every item is created by opening each ring, weaving it into another ring (or several,) in a certain pattern and then closing it to create
a beautiful, unique piece of jewelry. So, this chain is NOT machine made or bulk produced. Each and every ring is opened and closed by hand with pliers; and as such it takes time and loving patience to create. The rings are not soldered, and there is no coating applied to the Cupric metals (Copper, Bronze, Brass and even Sterling Silver) and they will naturally darken (oxidize.) This can be a desirable effect, resulting in an antique look if one wishes. The antiquing can also be done purposely. Some folk's skin reacts to Cupric metals and can darken where the metal comes in contact with the skin as well as quickly oxidizing the metal. If this happens to you, please choose another metal (such as Stainless, Argentium, Niobium or Aluminum.) There are also, more lightweight items created in bright and/or anodized aluminum which offer fun pieces for "costume jewelry" uses. Good choices for traveling and during hot weather. This is my personal favorite material for earrings; no weight to drag down the earlobes and no further damage if that is already an issue! Please treat the pieces with the care and respect as the the work of art that it is. Don't immerse it in sea water, swimming pool water, bath water, (or during showering,) personal care products, cleaning supplies or chemicals any more than you would a bronze or (other material) sculpture. It is also recommended that you not sleep in your jewelry pieces. If you take care of them, they will last you a very, very long time.
