Closing out May reflecting on my first event of the year, and one that renewed a deep drive and excitement that I feel about SUBLIMA ~ in a way that I didn’t know I needed. 💥⁠

So thankful to ⁠for showcasing my work for a fourth year in the Marketplace at their Heritage Month Summit ~ where luminaries like Vera Wang, Jason Wu, Suni Lee, Jeremy Lin and Min Jin Lee spoke about their journeys, mindsets and upcoming work. Being around and privy to hearing their inspirations, breakthroughs and inner emotional worlds left me feeling so hungry to chase my creative idea and reach new heights.⁠
⁠
Speaking with returning and new customers really gave me such a boost, too. Sharing my work digitally and getting online orders is very rewarding, but it’s different to take in excitement and feedback from people IRL. I don’t expect but am so delighted that people find resonance in my ideas, and how they turned out as these small artful objects, as meaningful parts of their self-expression.⁠

Hi guys! I wanted to take you behind the scenes of how I hand-carved my Boba Tea Splash & Bubbles Ring, which has become the all-time bestseller in my collection over the years.🧋⁠
⁠
My favorite part of designing and making jewelry is hand-carving the wax prototype. For the Boba Tea Ring, I started by sawing ring wax, and I chose to work on the ring band portion first, using small files and a hot wax pen to carve and build a liquid movement effect around the finger.⁠
⁠
Then, I added a bunch of wax to build the part of the ring that drips dramatically, along with three strategically-placed boba pearls.⁠ 🙂‍↔️
⁠
After molding the prototype, I loved seeing the ring casted into recycled brass and sterling silver.⁠

My most-worn piece is kind of a sleeper 👀⁠

I haven’t posted much about these earrings, but have been feeling that’s a disservice! ⁠

The Camden Curve Hoops go with just about everything. They’re lightweight, and I find myself choosing them again and again.⁠ For work, for the beach, for dress-up and on unglamorous days. When I wanna feel more cute at the gym, I’ll pop these on to give me an extra boost.⁠

When I designed these hoops, I knew I wanted to make something mid-sized and classic, with a twist. I carved beveled edges and they curve slightly (depending which ear you put them on, either toward or away from your face).⁠

For customers who’ve discovered these, I’ve noticed they’re a go-to for them too. Love that these have so much utility. 💫⁠

I love that spring in NYC is so full of promise. The emergence of life after a long and cold winter. Buds on trees. The breathtaking array of bodega tulips. An awakening of senses.⁠

Perhaps I’ll feel called to explore flower-inspired jewelry some day. Springtime optimism is something I associate with New York. I’ve been finding that small NYC artifacts, like this sensibility, or a beautiful detail on the facade of a building, are sparking inklings of desire to consider an NYC-inspired collection. We shall see.⁠

As LNY approaches and my celebratory sale draws to a close, it’s been a trip down memory lane to gather and remember pieces I’ve made that were inspired by aspects of Asian culture (and meant for everyone).⁠

I create only a small handful of new designs per year. Each one of these I felt really called to make. Lunar New Year is one of my favorite holidays/moments to design around, because it usually sets some helpful parameters around the sources of inspiration, which I find to be really useful to start sketching ideas and then sit down to carve.⁠

I love remembering the process and excitement I felt making every one of these pieces, and it’s been the best feeling to see you love them over the years, too.⁠
