Sometimes you make things that you love, but, for whatever reason, they don’t seem to resonate with others.

These cuffs are a great example of that for me.

Here’s what I love about these cuffs:
1. They help me use up the very last tiny little bits of beautifully colored tins.

2. I get to cut lots of little triangles with my favorite shape punch tool.

3. I love putting the color combinations together.

4. I love how they feel sturdy and rigid and yet still colorful and soft.

5. I (mostly 😄) enjoy the complex process of making them, yet the finished product is deceptively simple.

But for whatever reason these don’t sell.

It’s a mystery.

Curious if those of you who make things have similar experiences. Do the things you love most often get overlooked by others?

I was thinking I would make mandala-y pieces, but once I started cutting I could only see the lovely individual sections. And owls. Lots of owl faces.

I haven’t found many new tins this summer, but did run across these two little empty candle tins at the thrift store yesterday. I always love a good mandala.

Reconnected to tin this week and found a cool Gelli groove I’m interested in exploring a bit more. What did you create this week? Let me know in the comments.

So, I’m currently obsessed with printing vintage tools on old paperback books. The creative muse is odd.

When I’m printing these vintage tools I’m thinking a lot about how humans are inclined to beauty. Up until the industrial revolution, we made things mostly by hand one at a time. These tools all clearly come from after that revolution, but they still carry the earlier attention to detail. Even in their utilitarian nature, there’s something particularly lovely about each of them. Capturing some of the shapes and details on paper feels like an homage to a time more connected to the recognition of beauty within the mundane.

Come hang out and make earrings with us tonight Cat Schwenk

It was another aimless week, but things got done nonetheless. Maybe you can relate?
