Reverse Painted Glass Ornaments…

It always amazes me how an artist can use a tiny brush through a very small opening to paint these amazing designs and detailed scenes in reverse. A very steady hand and artistic ability is a must in creating these small works of art.

Cardboard 3D Nativity Scene

These nativity scenes were easy to put together (this one came with instructions). They had beautiful artwork and were easy to fold up and store in the original box. They were popular in the 40s, 50s and 60s. Did you, or anyone you knew, have one?

Christmas - Winter Decor…

• 1960s Shiny Brite different shapes silvered glass ornaments with bright pink and aqua paint

Max Eckardt began manufacturing glass tree ornaments in the USA in 1937. He increased production when World War II halted many European glass ornament imports. He sold the name to Poloron in the 1962 and they continued to manufacture glass ornaments under the Shiny Brite name until 1981 when they ceased production. Christopher Radko acquired the Shiny Brite name in the 90s and began to make reproductions, which are easy to recognize from the originals.

It’s a beautiful day to explore the Mega Mall, the outdoor Flea Market and inside the 40,000 sq ft mall! 15487 Old US 27, just south of DeWitt. The flea market is open until 3 PM and the mall is open until 6 PM.

Antique furniture find of the day…

Eastlake Oak Wash Stand

This Eastlake Wash Stand is a good example of that style. It’s oak, has simple lines and carved decoration. The style was popular in the late Victorian period 1870 to 1910. That is the same time that Knapp joints were popular. They were also called a half moon joint or a pin and cove joint. In the Victorian home it would’ve had a bowl and pitcher on top for washing up, drawers for toiletries and the commode would’ve been stored in the cupboard section.

It has a decorative back panel that isn’t in the photo.
