Did you know the grey whales are a bottom feeding baleen whale filtering their food by scooping up the sea floor.
They can get up to 40-50 ft long and weigh up to 45 tons.

They are most famous for their incredible annual migration, traveling between 10,000 and 14,000 miles from the Bering and Chukchi Sea to Baja California, Mexico.

Unfortunately grey whales have had a devastating year. Between ship strikes, whale entanglement and malnutrition there have been numerous whales that have not survived their journey.

I made this piece in honor of them, their peaceful nature and their near coastal habitats. This cloisonne enamel is made from fused glass, sterling silver, 22k gold, 14k gold, a faceted moonstone and dendratic quartz.

I hope that we make better decisions to help protect these gentle giants helping them endure and continue in their necessary migration.

Today I am trying something new.

I have always wanted to add engraving under my enamels.
And now with the Lumos Flex I can.

With the 15w fiber laser I can both cut and engrave silver.

Here I have added details to one of my signature pieces using the WeCreat software.

The dual fiber and blue diode laser allows for a variety of engraving options and I have only just scratched the surface of all the possibilities.

I wanted to see if I could get a deep enough engraving that couldn't shine through my transparent enamel.

After the enamel is finished I make a sterling silver setting so that it can be worn and cherished one day.

With the help of the Lumos Flex I am able to add personalization to each piece, something I have always wanted to offer to my clients.

I can't wait to see what else I can make with the WeCreat Lumos Flex.
