Polishing a new River Tumbled ring before it heads into the world.

This design is part of my ongoing exploration of silver shaped by water — organic edges, worn texture, and a stone set like something found along the riverbank.

I love seeing this piece move from the bench, to the hand, and then back onto wet stone where the inspiration feels most obvious.

Does this one feel more like river rock, tide pool, or something else?

The River Tumbled Collection is back on the table this month.

Inspired by stones shaped slowly by moving water, each piece in the River Tumbled Collection is hand fabricated in Argentium® silver and accented with blue sapphires that catch the light like pools along a riverbank.

The organic forms, worn edges, and flowing textures are created through a process of fusing and shaping silver rather than forcing it into perfect symmetry—much the way water shapes the landscape over time.

Same opal, different light.

This is the Sunflare necklace from the Strata Collection, featuring an Ethiopian opal from the Welo region paired with a small sapphire accent.

Opal is notoriously hard to photograph because the color shifts every time the light changes — one moment it flashes green, the next orange, yellow, or soft fire from within the stone.

For Strata, I’m drawn to that feeling of hidden color revealed by the landscape: mineral seams, layered rock, and unexpected brightness held inside organic forms.

New Mineral Vein earrings, finished this week.

A winding brass vein cuts through textured Argentium silver, opening around a golden sapphire suspended within the seam.

This design is inspired by mineral deposits revealed in fractured stone — those unexpected lines of color, shimmer, and movement that appear when the surface breaks open.

I love how these feel both earthy and bright: silver texture, warm brass, and that little flash of golden sapphire.

Do these feel more like fractured stone, flowing water, or something in between?

The first earring is finished — today I’m making its match.

This new Strata design is inspired by the layered lines you see in rock formations, canyon walls, and places where time leaves a visible trace in the landscape. I’m playing with that idea through stone, metal, texture, and the way the silver seems to wrap and hold the shape.

Today’s bench work is about building the second earring and seeing how the pair comes together — always the interesting part with one-of-a-kind work.

Should I keep exploring this Strata direction?

A few unexpected “free” studio days between shows meant one thing… time to play. ✨
 I’ve been sketching and experimenting with new ideas for the River Tumbled collection — a couple of cuff concepts and these small organic earrings inspired by erosion, river stones, and shifting water pathways.

But honestly? The biggest win today wasn’t the design itself. It was the process.

Something finally clicked with sawing. For the first time, I cut these earrings out without snapping saw blades every few minutes or feeling completely frustrated the entire time. That tiny shift from fighting the metal to actually working with it felt huge.

I think sawing might officially be becoming part of my language as a metalsmith — and that opens up so many possibilities for future Two Gems designs.

Sometimes growth in the studio looks less like a finished collection and more like one quiet afternoon where your hands suddenly understand something new.
