Yesterday, a band director in my state admitted to and was arrested for having a se*ual relationship with a 16 year old student. As a director and a father of two girls, this infuriates me to no end. In college we are told repeatedly “don’t touch the kids, don’t touch the money”, but this is the understatement of the century. Acts like these are the anthesis of our job as an educator. We are here to teach our subject and protect kids from harm. To abandon these principles and cause harm deserves the fullest extent of punishment.

Teachers of all kinds are community leaders, and we should try our best to live above reproach in every facet.

Join me in praying for that school, that program, and that girl. There is always an impact after atrocities like this.

I have most of the means to make a board game, so I finally did using the Squish-a-long Harry Potter figures my wife collects! The board is a UV printed Room of Requirement on a 12x12 piece of clear acrylic while the chips on the board were cut and engraved with my lasers. Overall it was a lot of fun playing last night!

Back to my roots of making my students’ band awards lately. Band awards were the first thing I really made on my CNC router 4 years ago. Wanted to reward my students with something that had effort and meaning put into it. 4 years, 8 lasers, 13 3D printers, and a UV Printer later, I’m still doing it. No cost to the school, just a reward to my awesome students.

A signet ring was once a symbol of power and a way to immediately know a letter was from the genuine source. When finished, the letter was closed and sealed with wax, and the signet ring was pressed into it until solid.

A band dad recently bought tassel charms for all the seniors at his daughter’s school. In conversations with him, he told me about how he uses his woodshop business to build props for the marching band shows and annually has a big fundraising event for them. I decided to give his gift boxes a little upgrade for his dedication to being a great band dad!
