On Tuesday, June 22, 2021, Patrick Ryan (McNaughton) Howard, loving father of three children, passed away at age 33.

Patrick was born on May 18, 1988 and was a lifetime resident of Stuart, Florida. He established himself as a highly skilled welder and talented metal fabricator. A true outdoorsman, Patrick loved fishing, hunting, and working on cars. He was competitive, but ultimately focused on challenging himself. He was courageous and loyal. Patrick lived his life “full throttle”, made friends easily, and was often the life of the party. The heart that he wore on his sleeve was full of love for his family, but especially his children. He often expressed his belief that he did at least three things right: Hunter, Wyatt, and Adalynn.

Patrick is survived by his fiancee Kelly Willingham and his three children, Patrick Hunter Legate, Wyatt Howard, and Adalynn Howard. He is also survived by his parents, Lora McNaugton, and Charles and Desere Howard. He leaves behind siblings: Robert McNaughton, Victoria White, Andrew Howard, Gavin Lebron, Marybeth Howard, and Jake Hogan. In addition, Patrick is survived by many other family and friends too numerous to list.

Happy 4th of July everybody! As we celebrate today, I like to celebrate my late fathers sacrifice. He imparted to me and my siblings an education that no school ever dare address: Freedom isn’t free. Somebody has paid a price and as citizens we have a responsibility to demonstrate good stewardship of that fee paid on our behalf. As young children we did not understand, but he continued to tell us and explain it to us every year on Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and The 4th of July. He explained that when a man (or woman) walks into the line of fire to protect and serve the country and family they love, they don’t do it thinking that those who come after him will follow in his footsteps, do a better job, or somehow stop future tyranny. He goes with the end in mind;that no person should have to go after him, not his children or any other person. He goes to finish it. He goes because war is the last and final option to protect the freedom that you and I enjoy everyday without even realizing it. He goes believing that no matter the mortal sacrifice he makes, his countrymen will not forget and will treasure that gift as if it were oxygen. He knows that his life will not be in vain because each and every man will use the gift and keep America free from Tyranny and to protect her allies from those who would attempt to tear them asunder.
Are we good citizens? Our civil rights are like a wrapped gift under a tree. If they remain unopened, they are of no value. One must exercise them appropriately. Do you know your rights? Do you see corruption and do nothing? Do you wait for someone else to do something? You are powerful. One citizen, even by themself, is incredibly powerful. You can make a difference not only in your life, but possibly in the life of another. Your voice and your vote matters. Your stewardship matters. Be safe and thoughtful on this glorious 4th of July, it’s a great era to be alive!
