From her Suffolk, VA studio, Denise creates jewelry by mixing resin/clay, selecting botanicals, creating molds from found objects, and adding patinas/colors.

Gems and crystals add spark with only the highest quality chain and findings used. Welcome to Off the Beading Path and Zoa Mae Designs! A long-time crafter, I enjoy bringing hand-crafted jewelry to my corner of the world. After a long period of exploration and recovery from store-front business ownership, I’ve found a fun and inspiring niche. The new business name was added in summer of 2019 to honor my great-grandmothers – both creatives. Follow along to see what I’ll create next, and realize, you’re never too old to re-create yourself! We snuck away to the northeast for the wedding 💒 of dear friends, grabbed some fall inspiration, 🍂🍁 and a quick visit with family along the way. 🥰

Obviously not much work got done but there may have been some leaves collected. 🙄

A few things fresh off the workbench from the weekend. 😍 Some fun fall necklaces with a focus on leaves 🍁 and gemstones and a handful of eco printed silk scarves waiting for the next step in the process.

My youngest grand was in awe of the magic of printing with leaves. I’m fortunate enough to be able to pass in my love of creating to the next generation often. They’re usually interested. 😉 🥰

That was quite a storm! Wind, high tides, flooding, yikes! We’re so fortunate that we weren’t directly impacted by any of it. I know many people were. 🥺

Instead I took those stormy days as the perfect opportunity to find leaves for so botanical printing. It is that time of year and I really need to rebuild my stock for the upcoming shows. Plus I love 😍 the chance to do experimental/experiential projects. Some of these were done with new plants so I had no idea how they’d turn out. Whatcha think?🤔

Plus a couple of jewelry items got finished in between leaf work. 😉

A bit vintage and a bit spooky in time for the upcoming weeks in Smithfield. This weekend is the Vintage Market then, in less than a month the streets will be full of festive friends for Witches Night Out. 👻🧙‍♀️

Don’t eat these!😳 These messy rustic pumpkins are not cookies but they sure look like it! I’m not sure what they’re going to be I just know it’s 🎃 time!🥰

Meanwhile, this weekend I got the nicest compliment from a friend when I saw her wearing a necklace I’d made. She’d purchased it at and didn’t know who made it. It’s always a treat finding someone enjoy something I’ve made. ☺️ Swipe to see similar necklaces. This design is one of my favorites to make, gift and customize.

That weekend sure went by quickly!😳 All the kiddos are back in school and everyone is trying to get into the fall routine. Now if someone would just turn down the temperature a bit so it could feel like fall is coming. 🍁🍂

Regardless, somehow I managed to get this bit of Halloween pieces prepped. I figured out how to work in five minute increments. 🙄🤣 Working studio nonetheless. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Whew! It’s been a wee bit since my last post. So busy then regrouping after my return then it’s already September! How did that happen?!😳

Well fall is right around the corner with the first fun event Witches’ Night Out in Smithfield. So it’s busy busy time for the studio!

If you’re wondering where I was, I decided to take a trip and go use the other side of my brain for a while. 😉 First some history and culture classes, then a quick stop at the family castle 👑 and finally to what I think was the most beautiful scenery ever! ⛰️

And there wasn’t a minute to get a break upon return with DNA Summer School on the calendar. Guess it was fortunate that it was virtual and not actually in Ireland. Maybe. 🤔

With that, I’m back at it! Hope your autumn is falling (🙄🤣) into place nicely. Have a great week and enjoy the last official weekend of summer!🥰

What a weekend! We headed to Williamsburg early Saturday an sweated through Thomas Jefferson’s reading of the Declaration of Independence. Totally worth it! Hope you’ve had a safe and enjoyable America 250! Amazingly I still remember the America 200. But don’t tell anyone. 🙄
