I get super sentimental when I think about Tulsa, Oklahoma. Anyone else? I have made so many memories in that city… if you’re from any of the surrounding small towns, you know. 😜
Here’s some cool info if you love T-town like I do: The Tulsa flag is full of deep meaning and local history because every part of it tells a piece of Tulsa’s story.
💙 Blue - represents the Arkansas River, which runs through the heart of Tulsa and has shaped the city for generations.
🟨 Gold- represents the “black gold” *OIL* whose discovery in 1901 transformed Tulsa and brought tremendous growth and prosperity.
🛡️ The shield- pays homage to Oklahoma’s state flag and Tulsa’s Native American history, including the tribes who were forcibly relocated to Indian Territory.
🔴 Red- remembers the lives lost during the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and the destruction of Greenwood, known as Black Wall Street.
⭐ The star- represents Tulsa’s future. Its Art Deco-inspired shape is also a nod to one of the city’s most recognizable architectural styles.
🤍 The beige- represents the warmth and sense of community found in Tulsa.
I love that the flag doesn’t just represent what Tulsa is, it carries where it came from, what it survived, and where it’s going.
