AprylShowers Apryl Montero (AprylShowers) is a beadweaving artisan and craftsperson residing in The Villages, Florida. But she's a teenager. And yes, I was born in April.

She has been beading for over 15 years, and she is a member of several beading clubs in The Villages as well as the Central Florida Bead Society. Freelance court reporter by day, an injury and subsequent surgery left me with lots of time on my hands. I filled my time taking more beadweaving classes, then beaded my way into heaven while watching old reruns on TV. Bored, I posted photographs of my latest creations on Facebook, and I was quite overwhelmed at the reaction. Sitting on the deck of my summer home, a neighbor wanted me to make Starfish necklaces for her three granddaughters, who lived far away, so they would have a remembrance of their brief time with her this summer. She wanted to pay me, but I just couldn't take her money, so a lovely bottle of wine more than satisfied the bill. Every week I go to the bead store, and there they are, all those lovely stones calling my name. I have an emotional reaction to many of the stones, I just have to have them and must make something pretty. It's a huge stretch for me to sell them, but really I must if I want to support my new addiction. I'm hoping my amazingly gifted and talented daughter will soon be my artistic director, helping me to pick out colors and also to model my creations. All pieces are made personally by me. I've invested a lot learning beadweaving techniques at a local shop, and I've made some lovely friends along the way. My grandmother was a seamstress and my mother an artisan/crafts person, and hopefully I can pass a little of this on to my daughter. When she's done being a teenager, of course. All of the pieces for sale can be custom made with your special colors. Convo me with any questions or to commission a special piece. Prices reflect the cost of materials and the time it takes to create these special pieces. The materials I use include natural stones, Swarovski crystals, Czech Fire Polish crystals, glass pearls, and Japanese seed beads. High-quality Fireline or silk cording is used to ensure these pieces will last for a lifetime. My collections include the Mermaid Collection, all of which evoke memories of the seashore, nautical-inspired designs or colors evocative of beach glass. Of course, there's a lot more to the story of the Mermaid, but I'll leave it at that for now, LOL! The Fifty Shades Collection, I think needs no explanation!

Sadly, Hometown Crafters Marketplace in Oxford suddenly closed its doors due to the untimely death of one of the owners. We are all so saddened by the loss of a lovely man and heartbroken that we’ve lost a place we called home. I was truly honored to be a part of this community of so many skilled and talented artisans and craftspersons. I will always cherish the friends I’ve made there.

A group of us are looking for new space, ideally a new storefront with room for booths, a workshop, and closer to Eastport. If you happen to know of anything, please let us know!

AprylShowers Creations will carry on. You can find me, as usual, at Friday Bead Club or Tuesday Jewelry Arts as we look for a new home. I am available to teach – if you have a group, I’ll find a space, whether it’s to make Tila bracelets, keychains, whatever you fancy! In the meantime I’ll be working on some kits I have been hoarding and taking Zoom classes of my own with my favorite designers. Stay tuned to see what I'm working on and where the next wave takes me.
