Trendy vs timeless. When it comes to vintage and estate jewelry, timeless wins every time, and here's the hill I'll die on.
Here's why old gold beats new every single time for me:
They don't make them like this anymore. So much vintage and estate jewelry was made by hand, solid gold, back when a piece was built to outlive the person wearing it. Most new jewelry now is hollow and plated thin enough to fade by next summer. You can feel the difference the second you pick one up.
It already has a story. A new piece is blank. A pre-loved one has been somewhere, worn by someone, to things that mattered. I love that you're not starting from scratch, you're picking up a thread someone else started and carrying it forward.
It actually holds its worth. New jewelry loses value the moment you leave the store, kind of like driving a car off the lot. Most of that price is brand markup and the box. Vintage has already done its depreciating, and the good stuff climbs in value over time. More real material for your money, and it keeps it.
So tell me I'm wrong. Trendy or timeless, where do you land?
