Thank you for taking a moment to look at my jewelry and learn a little bit more about what I do. I’m Heather, the artisan and designer behind Morphew Designs. My father made his living as a self-employed carpenter and I took after his love of creating. My earliest memory of creating jewelry was when I was seven years old -- making earrings f

or all of my friends to wear for school pictures. I have experience with ceramics, stained glass, and lampworking, but creating jewelry is my passion. Morphew Designs was born in 2010 as my jewelry creation was making a transition from a personal interest to an actual business, and is a tribute to my father who passed in 2003. Much of my inspiration comes from the beauty of the natural world: the oceans, lakes, forests, mountains, stars, planets, galaxies...the magnitude of this universe. I am always amazed. I have a passion for creating and strive for originality, quality and craftsmanship. I specialize in incorporating metals with natural stones and applying various techniques to achieve unique colors, textures and designs. All designs are original and many are one of a kind. Copper is my favorite metal for its warmth and character. It is the most versatile metal for exploring texture and patinas. Copper is also hypoallergenic, like its sister metals -- gold and silver. Some of my other favorite materials include turquoise, freshwater pearls, and earthy semi-precious gemstones. My pallet is a reflection of the color schemes, forms and textures found in nature. This weekend we planted over 250 Iowa Native Flowers & Grasses ❤️
This has been a project in the making. Last spring we smothered out the weeds on two sides of the parking lot at our 4plex with tarps and then in the fall we transplanted about 25 or so coneflowers from our yard at home, knowing that we’d fill in the rest this Spring.
Yesterday we headed out to plant sale to shop from Mike’s Prairie Plants (wonderful selection…had almost everything we were looking for…and will be back next month if you’re looking for native plants..) Now lots of watering! And tending to my 48 chigger bites… 😭 while my husband has zero..

If all goes well we’re hoping to do the next weedy hill on the other side of the parking lot this fall or next spring! We’ll smother the weeds this spring. 🐝

What’s also so cool about this project is that we were able to get the cost of 50% of our plants covered through The City of Des Moines Clean Water Program Best Management Subsidy through The 💦 🐝 🦋 if you’re thinking of planting some native flowers or grasses or have other projects on your mind, check out their subsidies!

✨ I could not have asked for a better show to kick off 2026 ~ THANK YOU ~ and special thanks to all of the community members who came out to support the arts AND all of the amazing volunteers who made the event so special (a wonderful even Friday night..snacks and even JJ sandwiches for lunch on Saturday! We were spoiled!!). ✨❤️

I was also amazed at the level of talent surrounding me and was grateful to be able to support my fellow artists.

A beautiful new clock and spoon rest from to match my butter dish and soap dispenser (I’m a sucker for functional art AND native flowers..) a beautiful new stained glass peace titled “earth to sky” which is not going to fit the window that I had planned..so still thinking through where it’s going to go, and a very cool wire sculpted Walleye (a gift for someone special..)
