Long before Montres Breguet became known for tourbillons, guilloché dials, and the revival of Abraham-Louis Breguet’s inventions, the house quietly produced a small number of exceptionally refined wristwatches under the stewardship of the Brown family. Made in the decades before the modern era of the brand, these watches are admired for their understated elegance, thoughtful design, and use of some of the finest Swiss movements available.

Produced circa 1949, this Breguet Empire embodies that philosophy. Its restrained dial, featuring applied gold numerals, faceted markers, and a recessed subsidiary seconds register, places emphasis on proportion and balance rather than ornament. The beautifully sculpted yellow gold case introduces a touch of individuality through its distinctive hooked lugs, lending the watch a profile that feels remarkably modern for its time.

Powering the watch is the legendary Peseux 260, an observatory-grade movement revered among collectors for its precision, architecture, and exceptional finishing. Combined with its honest, attractively aged dial and strong original case, it stands as a compelling example of post-war Breguet at its most refined - an increasingly sought after rarity in the Breguet collecting world.

Long before international travel became routine, Patek Philippe solved a uniquely modern problem: telling time around the world at a glance.

Introduced in the late 1930s, the reference 1415 established the blueprint for virtually every world time wristwatch that followed. Its rotating city ring and 24-hour display transformed a complex complication into one of the most intuitive and elegant mechanisms ever placed on the wrist.

This yellow gold example remains wonderfully honest, with an original dial showing the kind of natural aging collectors love to see and a city ring that serves as a fascinating snapshot of the world’s geopolitical geography in the mid-20th century.

More than a beautiful vintage Patek Philippe, the 1415 is one of the most important wristwatch references ever produced — a foundational chapter in the history of world time watchmaking.

There’s just something about these 1990s perpetual calendars.

Sold in 1994, this platinum perpetual calendar pairs extraordinary mechanical sophistication with remarkable wearability. Measuring 36mm, it features a finely decorated bezel, elegant Breguet numerals, blued hands, and the perpetual calendar layout that became one of the manufacture’s defining signatures.

Turn the watch over and the sapphire display back reveals the beautifully finished automatic movement beneath—complete with Geneva stripes, polished bevels, and an engraved skeletonized rotor. More than a perpetual calendar, the 25850 represents a pivotal chapter in modern haute horlogerie, bridging traditional craftsmanship and the renewed appreciation for mechanical watchmaking that followed.

Audemars Piguet Ref. 25850, platinum, sold in 1994.

A hero’s watch.

In 1940, as France faced one of the darkest moments in its history, Gaston Thiébaut was among the small number of French politicians who opposed granting power to Marshal Philippe Pétain. Revered as a hero of the First World War, Pétain would go on to lead Vichy France and collaborate with N**i Germany during the occupation. Thiébaut later became involved in the French Resistance, cementing his place among those who opposed the regime.

Presented to Thiébaut on 12 May 1952, this Ref. 4178 carries that remarkable provenance on its caseback. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful chronographs ever produced, the 4178 is celebrated for its elegant proportions, distinctive teardrop lugs, and timeless dial design. An exceptional vintage chronograph, elevated further by its connection to a figure who stood on the right side of history.
