I went up to check and move my trail cams and found a pretty fresh pile of bear s**t and trail. I know they are up here but they are pretty elusive. Maybe we'll cross paths this year

Went with indirect percussion on fluting this one lol. I didn't want to snap it. I knew the module this piece came from had some goldsheen in it and I'm glad the sun came out to show it off. I made this one with copper percussion and antler and bone pressure flaking.

I was able to biface a handful of obsidian chunks this evening but didn't finish anything. I dug through the archives and pulled these root b**r chert "paleo" pieces out. They are all raw root b**r chert and we're certainly tough lol

The various types of rainbow obsidian are some of my favorite materials to work. The most common sources of rainbow obsidian that I know of are found in California and Mexico. What's your favorite color of rainbow obsidian?

In flintknapping, a platform is the term used for the area that you strike. You can either have isolated platforms or a continuous platform. Each has its risks and benefits. Isolated platforms are ideal to remove specific ridges or high spots. Continuous platforms work better with softer materials like obsidian and can give you a pretty good result
