I was hired and commissioned to create a memorial item for a veteran who recently passed away.

I was given 3 hats and his original military jacket to create an item that spoke to great man he was and leaving a lasting item for his beloved daughter to keep. Her instructions were, “Do what you do”. And you know I DID JUST THAT!

Photos show the tedious tasks from initial placement ideas to the final product. Each item was carefully cut out and off of the hats. The surfaces were cleaned and prepped for the placement and final each one was attached to the garment. Then the process of a 72 hour curing and meticulously making sure all the edges were attached and not raising up. Another 24 hour curing time and the final deliverable was done!

It turned out great and my client, loved it!!

It’s MERCHANDISE MONDAY at J Strickland Designs!!!!

Yesterday I wore one of my latest creations. I specialize in fabric jewelry. This is a denim necklace made from the waist band of a pair of jeans.

Soooooo many compliments! This design is absolutely the best accessory to spice up any outfit. I wore mine with a denim skirt, white blouse and white rhinestone cowgirl boots. The assignment was completely understood!

I am making several to fill orders I received on yesterday. NO 2 are alike unless requested to be so.

Working on a memorial jacket for a veteran.

In honor of his service to our nation, I am removing appliqués, patches etc from 3 hats and placing them on his official army uniform jacket.

It is custom commissioned work like this that I love creating. To capture the life of a person in wearable form is a beautiful process.

I’ll post the results if my client allows.
