I still remember where we were when we got the news…

We were at Texas Roadhouse when Jamie’s cousin called and told us about the accident. She did not yet know all the details, but knew it was bad and asked us to pray for the family. After only a few minutes, we got another call that Jamie and Rylie had passed away. We did not eat another bite. We sat in stunned silence waiting to pay our bill.

That day, a hole was left in the community when Jamie and Rylie Sloan were killed by a drunk driver.

We were honored to be asked to play a small part in the Ist Annual Rylie K. Sloan FCA Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser. These four mini vase lamps were made from a tree in Rylie’s great grandmother’s yard. Jamie had wanted me to make something from this special tree, so it’s fitting that when it had to be removed, we were able to get some pieces of it for this project. We use blue epoxy in probably 99.9% of what we make, but for this project, I chose purple in memory of Rylie!

We were able to spend a little time on the bandsaw mill yesterday. This curly black walnut has some spectacular grain. This came from a storm damaged tree on the Historic Rose Hill Plantation State Park site. Can’t wait to see what we pull out of this.

Giveaway! Let’s do another one for the month of August! 3 ways to win so read to the bottom!!!

10 years… 😳it’s been 10 years since we went full time in this business…well 10 yrs for Russ, but I was a little more cautious, so my 10 year mark will be next year.

Anyway, I wanted to pull some pieces out from over the years to see how we have progressed, so here are a few of those. I wish I had more pieces from the earliest years.

We would love for anyone and everyone that has purchased from us in years past or even recently to show some pictures of anything you have purchased in the comments. Tell us where you are from and the year of each piece.

One step forward… two steps back. The chainsaw mill is down, joining our broken down skid steer, tractor and golf cart. And our biggest lathe is hanging by a thread. If we did not have bad luck with equipment, we would not have any luck. Maybe after the Christmas season, we will buy all new equipment 😂😂.

As easy as it is to get discouraged, we recognize how blessed we are and are thankful everything that really matters is all good. Great family, friends and health. We are blessed!
