Is it important for your appraisals to be USPAP compliant? YES!!!

Are all appraisers writing USPAP compliant appraisals or even familiar with it? NO!

This sapphire from Maejean Vintage, shown looking through its pavilion (the bottom), proves to be synthetic due to the gas bubbles and curved striae. These are the result of the process used to make it, which began with liquid. Look closely, you’ll see faint blue curved lines (the striae) and clusters of bubbles.

On my desk today… a piece I’m working on for Maejean Vintage

They asked me to verify if this is a natural or synthetic sapphire because it had some questionable inclusions. It’s a good thing they did! Watch and listen.
