Exciting times at the SAICE Western Cape Regional Bridge Building Competition!

๐ŸŒ‰๐Ÿ—๏ธWeโ€™re currently on the ground at Zutari in Century City, witnessing the next generation of civil engineers in action.
๐Ÿš€This isn't just about glue and dowel sticks; it's a high-stakes test of physics, structural integrity, and teamwork. Teams from across the province have only a few hours to design and construct a bridge that must span a specific ravine gapโ€”all while racing against the clock.

Whatโ€™s happening right now:
Design & Construction: Learners are applying mathematical reasoning and engineering theory to turn a simple kit of 25 dowel sticks and string into a load-bearing masterpiece.

Up next - Technical Adjudication: Judges will evaluate the structures for aesthetics and precise adherence to the rules.

The "Bridge Breaking": Soon, every bridge will be tested to destruction on a specialized loading rig to find its ultimate limit state. Some of these lightweight structures can hold hundreds of kilograms before they finally give way! Watch it live from 14:30 on Youtube: https://youtube.com/live/eMLPB9Pi-qs?feature=share

This competition is one of SAICE's initiatives for attracting bright young minds to the civil engineering profession, helping solve South Africa's future infrastructure challenges.

Follow along for our live walk-through to see these incredible designs before they hit the testing rig! ๐ŸŽฅ๐Ÿ‘‡
