Vintage Tuareg Ring
A literal presentation of history ✨️
This mixed medium piece was originally manufactured by the Imuhag, meaning the free people - a semi-nomadic desert people from the Sahara. They are known for being master navigators of this stark landscape and the guardians of the trans-Saharan trade routes.
The silver, sourced when they came into contact with the Western world through-out the ancient trade routes they followed. Re-used and recycled from broken metal goods and other jewellery pieces no longer in use sourced as they passed through markets. An amalgamation of stories woven into one.
The center, a handmade Venetian star glass bead, the first of its kind dating back to around the 1400's. These beads were used as a high value trading commodity among European traders and so made its way into central and West Africa.
Layers of dense Ebony wood inbetween the brass used for contrast and effect and to some it represents the dark and vast night sky. Finished off with hand engraved tribal markings.

I finally have a moment to reflect on the travels of the last month, inbetween getting back into the swing of things at work.
A whirlwind trip to Morocco and a slowing down on foot in Namibia. Both trips deeply moved me in very different ways.
Like a magpie I collect little keepsakes to later put into jewellery. Most of my travel stories can be found sealed in glass jars on shelves in the jewellery studio. Stories waiting to be released, worn, celebrated.
These beauties came straight from the streets, oceans and mountains in Morocco. Soon to be put into rings, pendants or bangles.
If any of the above pieces grab you, reserve it for purchase and let me know. Each one of them a bespoke piece waiting to happen. Get in touch ✨️

As my time in Morocco draws to a close, I can't help but reflect on how big a role storytelling, trading and art has played throughout history.
I have always been acutely curious about the story behind everything that crosses my path. Intricate capsules of information deposited in plain site. If I turned left instead of right here, if I stayed chatting to that person for a minute longer, if I took one more wave or decided not to follow a whim life could have and can unfold in a million different tributaries. Life is so wildly sacred.
I am deeply moved, swayed and swept up by the jewellery that landed up in my hands by wandering some of the ancient trade routes through the hustling narrow streets of Morocco. Essouira and Marrakech in particular.
These pieces and their stories have rekindled a fire in me I thought long gone. They will be available on my website for purchase soon. Get in touch x
