If you work with your hands, claws are the part of a ring that snags on jerseys and bends. Claudia has none. The stone sits in a solid rim of metal, and the band tapers to a knife edge that catches light along its length.

Nobody engraved that pattern. It grew inside the meteorite as the metal cooled in space, a few degrees every million years, and it only shows once we etch the surface with acid.

Every slice cuts through the crystals at a different angle, so no two bands look alike.

Silver gets harder every time we bend or hammer it, and if we keep going it cracks. So partway through, we heat the band until it glows and let it cool, and it's soft enough to work again.
