Guys… we have the MOST exciting news 🤩🤍☀️

We are officially powered by the sun. Yes, you heard right — the entire farm is now running on solar! From all our cottages and cabins, to our beautiful venue , and … we are officially off-grid 🌿

This is such a huge milestone for us. One of our biggest goals has always been to move towards true self-sufficiency, living more in rhythm with the land, and reducing our impact wherever we can. Today feels like a massive step in that direction.

A big thank you to DJ Solar for helping bring this dream to life — and here’s to another step forward in creating a more eco-friendly, sustainable future for our farm ✨

This week, all the staff from the farm got together and worked in the vegetable garden with Mathews, our head gardener 🌱

The aim was to help Mathews clear some of the veggie beds that had become overgrown with weeds after all the rain we’ve had, and also to learn more about the garden — which provides continuous herbs and greens to both and .

Staff were shown the composting process and how important it is to collect all the organic waste from each of the businesses on the farm and bring it back to the garden, where it is turned into rich organic compost.

We also learned about our worm bins and how the compost tea they produce helps feed and nourish the garden.

Mathews explained the seasons, what can be planted when, and how important planning is in order to provide a continuous supply of vegetables to our farm venue and brewery.

Once the work was done, we all enjoyed a delicious meal together at Minas, made with vegetables straight from the garden and prepared by our head chef Maggie 🍃

Thank you to all our staff for a fun day of learning, growing, and working together.

We’re sooo excited for the year ahead, but first a massive thank you from all of us at Zwakala River Retreat 🤍

To everyone who visited, stayed on the farm, stopped to say hi (to us or the dogs), supported our small family business, and enjoyed this special place the way we do — we honestly couldn’t do it without you. We feel so lucky to share this farm with such absolute legends 😍

This year brought the coolest people, good chats, shared tables, swims, laughs, beers and memories we’ll hold close. And we can’t wait to do even more of it in 2026.
