Does your ring suddenly feel a little loose?

Before you panic and decide that it needs to be resized, there may be a very simple explanation.

The weather.

Our fingers can actually shrink when it is cold and swell when it is hot, which means a perfectly fitting ring can suddenly feel noticeably looser during winter.

And yes, the opposite can happen when the warmer weather arrives.

So if you have noticed your favourite ring spinning around your finger lately, you are not imagining things.

Before making any permanent changes, pop in and chat to us.

We would much rather have a look, check the fit and give you some advice before you resize a ring that may fit completely differently a few months from now.

Some jewellery is saved for an occasion.

And then there is the jewellery that simply becomes part of you.

We love the spectacular pieces.

Of course we do.

Bigger isn’t always better.

There. We said it.

When choosing a diamond, it is very easy to become completely fixated on carat weight. But carat measures weight, not how beautifully a diamond will perform once it is sitting on your hand.

A smaller diamond with a beautiful cut can have incredible brightness and sparkle, while a larger diamond with poor proportions can appear dull. In fact, additional carat weight can sometimes be hidden beneath the widest part of the stone, meaning you may be paying for weight you cannot really see.

This is why we never want you to shop for a diamond based on one number alone.

Look at the stone.

Watch what it does in the light.

Consider the cut, colour, clarity and carat together.

And most importantly, choose the diamond that makes you keep looking at your hand.

Because the best diamond is not automatically the biggest one in the cabinet.

It is the one you cannot stop thinking about.

Can a diamond actually scratch?

Here is one of those jewellery questions people are often too scared to ask because we have all been told that diamonds are practically indestructible.

The answer is yes.

A diamond is incredibly resistant to scratching, but another diamond can scratch it. And while diamonds are exceptionally hard, that does not mean they cannot be chipped or damaged.

Which is also why throwing all of your jewellery into one jewellery box together is not the best idea.

That beautiful diamond ring deserves its own little space.

Jewellery is made to be worn and enjoyed, but a little bit of care goes a very long way.
