Big changes are coming to Ekurhuleni.

Residents are expected to save around R74 million after the proposed property rate increase was reduced from 2% to 1.5%, one of the lowest increases in the country.

The newly approved budget also introduces an Electricity Protection Unit to tackle illegal connections and meter theft across the metro, while protecting funding allocated to roads, electricity, water and sanitation.

However, residents will still face increases of 9% for electricity and 11% for water.
