This weeks Feature Friday we're doing things a little different as we are introducing you to the incredibly talented Mandi Saunders from Grace Glass. If you've visited us on a Saturday, you've probably noticed the crowd gathered around Stall D2, captivated by Mandi's live glass-making demonstrations. Watching her transform rods of coloured glass into delicate works of art right before your eyes is truly something special. In Mandiβs own words she tells us her story:
βHi folks, I am Mandi Saunders, the face behind Grace Glass. I started working with molten glass 14 years ago with no intention of it becoming a business. The process that I use is called Lampwork (and no, I do not fix lamps! π€£).
I have a love and passion for Venetian Murano glass from Italy. The variety of colours is extensive, and I have always been drawn to colour. I love the attention to detail that I am able to put into my work.
For years, I wanted my products to get more exposure, and there is nowhere else in KZN quite like Shongweni Craft & Farmers Market, with the number of visitors that come through our gates during the six hours we are open each Saturday.
I was very nervous to apply through fear of being turned down, but people are loving the uniqueness of my products, and I am certainly getting my work out there. I am so grateful to Christine and her team for their kindness and support, and I hope to go from strength to strength with my unique creations.β
Whether you're looking for a unique gift, a beautiful piece of jewellery, or simply want to witness a fascinating craft in action, be sure to stop by Stall D2 this Saturday. Mandi's passion, skill, and creativity shine through in every piece she makes, and her live demonstrations are always a highlight of the market experience. π
