This is a 108 carat rough pink diamond mined at the Kao mine in Lesotho. Storm Mountain Diamonds (Pty) Ltd ('SMD') operates the kimberlite diamond mine at Kao, Lesotho. This diamond is among the largest "fancy intense" pink diamonds ever recorded. The Kao mine, located 2,500 meters above sea level, is recognized as a major producer of these rare stones, often yielding large, high-quality, Type IIa pink diamonds. The Kao Mine kimberlite pipe is the fourth largest in southern Africa and the largest in Lesotho. Kimberlite rock is the most important diamond host – the ore rock for diamonds. It’s a kind of volcanic rock, but a very rare and unusual one. Geologists figure there are many kimberlite pipes out there which remain to be discovered because they are covered over with soils. Ever look at a volcanic rock and wonder if it were kimberlite? Well, watch this video because I am digging in to take a look at this very unusual volcanic rock known as Kimberlite: https://youtu.be/ATaju2IB7cE
