This was created in partnership with the University of Johannesburg and built with sponsorship from companies in the hospitality industry. This is where we fulfill our mandate of training, offering subsidised, basic skills courses to members of the hospitality industry, be they formal or informal. Culinary Team South Africa has represented our country in the Culinary Olympics since 1980 and received official team status from the Bureau of Heraldry in 2008, becoming South Africa’s official representative in the culinary world. The Team is run on sponsorship and they meet regularly to practice both the Cold Table and Hot Kitchen, as these are the two sections of the Olympics.

In memory of Graham Donet

The South African Chefs Association is saddened to learn of the passing of Graham Donet, former General Manager of the Association.

Graham was a long-standing member of the SA Chefs family and played an important role in the Association's development over many years.

During his tenure, he championed the growth of the culinary profession, supported opportunities for young chefs and helped strengthen the Association's relationships within South Africa and internationally. He was also actively involved in initiatives that used the power of food to make a difference in communities.

We remember Graham with gratitude for his years of service, his commitment to the industry and the contribution he made to SA Chefs.

Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends and former colleagues.

We're rounding off the week with a look back at a fantastic industry event!

SA Chefs was delighted to partner with Unilever Professional SA for an event that brought together chefs, contract cleaning professionals, hotel owners and distributors to explore the important link between hygiene, cleaning and culinary excellence.

A big thank you to Unilever Food Solutions SA for preparing and serving a delicious lunch!

The event also marked a special milestone, with Chef Darshan Chetty, Executive Chef of Mount Edgecombe Country Club, announced as Unilever Professional’s very first Brand Ambassador. Congratulations, Chef! πŸ‘

Well done to the Unilever Professional team, especially the activation lead, for organising such a successful event and bringing so many industry professionals together.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ Happy International Chefs Day!

Did you know that International Chefs Day has its roots right here in South Africa?

Founded in 2004 by the legendary Dr Bill Gallagher, former Chairman of SA Chefs and President of Worldchefs, what began as his vision to celebrate the culinary profession has grown into a global movement, bringing chefs together every year on 20 October.

This year's theme, Food Explorers, celebrates the importance of inspiring children to discover the wonderful world of food, understand where their ingredients come from and develop healthy eating habits.

To mark the occasion, we're hearing from the people behind SA Chefs, starting with our SA Chefs President Coo Pillay, who shares his International Chefs Day message.

Here's to the chefs who inspire, educate and nurture the next generation – and to the proud South African legacy that continues to bring our profession together around the world.

Happy International Chefs Day to chefs everywhere! 🌍

A BIG THANK YOU TO CHEFS BRIGADE! πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦πŸ’šπŸ’›

Another wonderful show of support from South Africa's hospitality industry!

Chefs Brigade, a family-run business with hospitality at its heart, has generously donated R5,000 to help Team Masakhane get to the 2026 Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg.

And their message to our nine young chefs is one we absolutely love:

These nine extraordinary talents are rewriting the story of our industry, building together one unforgettable plate at a time. Go bring that gold home, team – South Africa is behind you!”* πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

Thank you, Chefs Brigade, for your generosity, your encouragement and your belief in the next generation of South African culinary talent.

With just weeks to go until Luxembourg, support like this means so much to our young chefs and the team working behind the scenes to get them there.

To our fellow hospitality and foodservice businesses – will you follow Chefs Brigade's lead?

A BIG THANK YOU TO GOMO MASILO! πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦πŸ’šπŸ’›

We're delighted to welcome Gomo Masilo to the growing community of businesses backing Team Masakhane, with a generous R2,000 donation towards our young chefs' journey to the 2026 Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg.

We particularly loved the message that accompanied their donation:

πŸ’¬ β€œThe Gomo Masilo brand is proud to support South African culture and the incredible talent representing our heritage. May we continue to celebrate, preserve, and share the richness of South Africa with the world.”

Thank you, Gomo Masilo, for recognising what this opportunity means – not only for our young chefs, but for South African culinary talent and the opportunity to showcase our country's heritage on the international stage.

With Luxembourg now just weeks away, Team Masakhane is working incredibly hard to prepare. Every contribution helps bring them closer to taking their place on the world stage.
