WATCH: *G4S Van Hijacked While “Police” Watch* – *Or Were They the Hijackers?*

In yet another episode of “Only in South Africa,” a G4S cash-in-transit vehicle was hijacked in broad daylight—right under the noses of what appeared to be fully uniformed police officers. Yes, you read that right: while the G4S crew thought they were being stopped for a routine license and roadworthy check, the real action was just getting started.

Footage from inside the cabin of the money van shows the crew complying with what they believed were legitimate SAPS officers. But in a rather bizarre twist (or not-so-bizarre, depending on how long you’ve lived here), the stop quickly escalated into a full-blown hijacking.

The so-called officers—dressed head to toe in regulation SAPS blues, watched on as hijackers helped themselves to the vehicle and its contents as if it were part of their day's work.

Whether they were actual police or highly convincing criminals playing dress-up is still under investigation.

Social media, of course, exploded. “Only in Mzansi do the cops rob you with the same confidence as criminals,” one user posted.
Another wrote, “Was this a roadblock or a reality TV heist show? We need answers!”

While the memes write themselves, the situation raises serious concerns about the use of police uniforms and the ever-blurring line between law enforcement and law evasion. G4S has confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.

As for the public, we’re once again left to wonder: in South Africa, who do you actually call when the police are the suspects?
