These two magnificent 𝟏𝟖𝟕𝟎 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐬 were originally crafted in 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞, 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝, as part of the 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 of 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐠'𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Here are some before and after pictures of an early 1900's Gustav Becker grandfather movement. The clock movements are stripped and then cleaned in an industrial size ultrasonic cleaner.
We then inspect and repair worn plate bushes.
The gears and pivots are polished on a clockmaker’s lathe and plate bushes are polished with smooth broaches and pith-wood.
It is the assembled and lubricated with clock synthetic clock oil
Lastly the movement is setup on a test bench where we readjust the clock beat and the chimes & strike.
The movement has to run for minimum 24 hours in which time we monitor it's performance and adjust the running speed.

This clock at Masimbambane College in Orange Farm, Soweto has not run for at least eight years. We are replacing the movement and hands with a BODET gps system. The new movements is connected to a gps antenna which constantly checks the time displayed and compares it to the time-signal it receives from a satellite. If there is a difference due to load shedding, it will automatically adjust the time on the analog clock.
