Soldiers at a military base in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, have been without electricity for about two to three weeks.
The power problem has made life very difficult for the soldiers, especially during the cold winter. They have no hot water and cannot properly prepare hot, healthy meals. It has also affected important military work, medical services and equipment maintenance.
The soldiers' union, SANDU, says this is unacceptable and warned the Defence Department that it could take the matter to court if the electricity was not restored.
The SANDF says it knows about the problem and that technicians and contractors have been sent to the base to fix it.
Soldiers at the base have been living without electricity for weeks, making it difficult to work, get hot water and prepare proper meals. The military is now working to restore the power.
