During the early hours of Saturday morning, 23 May, one of Strand Neighbourhood Watch's vehicles on the road, noticed an open gate in Alex Pienaar Road. When our patrollers stopped to investigate, two suspects exited the gate. The suspects were stopped, but chose to flee, with our patrollers hot on their heels. One suspect was caught and brought back to the house. He was in posession of a knife.
The suspects stole a compressor, which they hid under a tree further down the road, and a bicycle, with which a third burglar unfortunately left earlier.
The intruders broke the gate to gain entry to the premises. The burglars were also in the garage, but their early morning shopping spree was possibly cut short by the arrival of our patrollers.
SAPS was informed immediately and arrived on the scene shortly after. The suspect shared the street names of the other two suspects with the Police.
The caught suspect was arrested and taken into custody.
The owners of the home did the right thing and opened a case with SAPS, against the intruders. If you do not open a case, nothing will happen to suspects, as the court will have nothing to prosecute them for.
Thank you to the two vigilant Strand Neighbourhood Watch patrollers for your time and effort to rid our streets of unwanted elements.
