Mulberry Mongoose 🐘 Transforming harsh snare wire into unique jewellery
🇿🇲 Handmade by women in the South Lu

We design jewellery & accessories, employing & training local Zambian women to create our beautiful pieces which are sold worldwide. We use organic materials sourced from the African bush including guinea fowl feathers bought from local farmers, hand carved wooden beads made using reclaimed wood, vegetable ivory seeds & recycled paper beads. We turn snare wire, found during essential anti snare patrols carried out to conserve our iconic wildlife, into jewellery & give donations back to fund more patrols with every piece of jewellery sold.

Our new Simple Snare Necklace in Pearl is part of our recently launched collection, pairing soft white pearls with confiscated poachers’ snare wire. The wire is collected after being removed from the bush and transformed by our team in South Luangwa. So far, 45,047 snare traps have been turned into jewellery, helping support conservation and our Zambian team.

Some of the coins in our Heritage Collection date back to 1964, the year Zambia gained independence under Kenneth Kaunda. We source these out-of-circulation coins from local coin merchants and give them a new life in our jewellery, preserving a little piece of Zambian history in something you can wear.

Our new Simple Snare Earrings in Pearl are made with soft white pearls and metal created from confiscated poachers’ snare wire. It takes real skill to turn this tough material into delicate jewellery, and our team has now transformed 45,047 snare traps into pieces that help support conservation.

Sara is one of the local artisans we work with, supplying us with beautiful Chitenge fabrics. We work with local entrepreneurs and artisans to source materials. Our chitenge is used to make the colourful jewellery pouches that come with every piece we sell. It means we can support other small businesses and families while showcasing the incredible materials and creativity found here in Zambia.

You’ve helped us reach some pretty incredible numbers.

Together, we’ve now raised $182,000+ for conservation and helped cut up 70,000+ lethal poachers’ snares.

That’s more than 180 km of snare wire permanently removed from circulation and given a completely different purpose.

And we’re not stopping there.

We time our conservation donations with Tusk’s Wildlife Ranger Challenge, where eligible donations can unlock an additional 25% for our conservation partners, while also helping fund wildlife rangers across Africa.

So when you choose a piece of Mulberry Mongoose jewellery, you’re helping turn something made to harm wildlife into something that helps protect it.

Making our signature coils is no easy task. As Clara explains, it takes a surprising amount of strength to shape the wire by hand, and anyone who has visited our workshop may have had a go themselves and discovered just how much effort goes into each one.
