The finishing of a piece can often take almost as long or longer than the construction of it, which is Sometimes frustrating, but often meditative. Finishing if often repetitive, like filing, sanding and polishing, the same task completed multiple times with increasingly finer grits to create that satisfying, smooth sheen...

📍Sa Pa

All of the stops on our honeymoon were our favourite, but this one stood out for the awesome mountains & culture. It was a ~6hr bus journey from Hanoi, which we made overnight (an experience in itself) to the rapidly expanding town which sits at 1500m.

The weather was mostly incredibly dry (although humid) and hot whilst we were there - they hadn't had rain for 10 days, which was worrying for all the farmers (of which most residents are). We knew we wanted to get some running in, so made the excellent decision to find a guide, to save us from getting lost in the jungle - we cannot recommend the fabulous Linh () more!

She took us a great route up Phang Xi Pang (Fansipan, known as 'the roof of Indochina' at 3,143m - not allowed to climb un-guided, and there are guards!) avoiding some of the main tourist trail, and on day 2 some lovely trails including some of the route to Ta Phin village. Along the way we learnt so much about the local Hmong people, the rice terraces, mountain spices the area is famous for (cardamom, cinnamon, star anise) & Shamanism in Vietnam. Finishing our run with a Red Dao herbal bath was also a highlight (thanks Linh!).

We also had a lovely potter about Ta Van village and did a great batik & indigo dying workshop with .shop

Our last few nights the heavens opened and there were two big storms overnight, which the family we were staying with were grateful for. Most families run their own subsistence farms. It's incredible that although the valleys are rice terraces as far as the eye can see in most areas, that none (of the one harvest per year) is sold to market. An incredible place 💚
