We enjoy explaining the botanical casting process during events.Sprue are the most difficult to explain.
Once the orchid and its sprue are mounted on the base and the cylinder added, plaster is poured in.
The orchid and sprue are burnt out over several hours. The sprue become the channels for silver to flow through the plaster to the void left when the orchid was also burnt out.

Thank you to all the people who stopped by our booth in Glenview IL! Our next show is in Charles City on August 15th. For those of you interested in seeing the actual casting process, here's a short video- the mold where an orchid or twig was burnt out within the plaster frame is on the backside of the flame (crucible)
